The use of Apps on our mobile devices makes our personal and professional life easier and more productive. As such, I will be reviewing some of these apps that I use. This article will be the first in a series of reviews.

I use the Airports app by Applicate Ltd at before my flight. With the app, you are able to retrieve data from almost every airport in the world. At a glance, you will be able to retrieve information such as the ATIS freq, time zone, runway data, METAR and TAF.

You will also be able to retrieve NOTAMs for the airport. I am not sure how your Computer Flight Plan looks like at your airline, but the information presented in the Airports app is way easier for me to digest. I’ll usually read the NOTAMs at home with the Airports app, and when I get to work, I’ll cross-check against the NOTAMs printed by my Airline’s despatch.

Easy to read NOTAMs for any airport in the world

For quick reference, you’re able to retrieve the runway data for the airport.

For quick reference, you’re able to see what runways are available at the airport

Take note, while getting aeronautical information with the Airports app is really simple, to keep yourself legal, only use the information in the Airports app as reference. Always reference official aeronautical data before and after despatch!)

The app is available on the iPhone and iPad for SGD $9.98. Download Airports – Applicate Ltd from the App store now!)
